Need a play-by-play?

Here's what to expect on a Sunday morning at St. Martin's!

Our church is at the corner of Chagrin River Rd. and Solon Rd. Come in the driveway on Chagrin River Rd., turn right and park in the “upper” parking lot. Walk to the big red doors between the columns. When you come in the doors, an usher will greet you and hand you a piece of paper. If you wish, you can  hang up your coat in the coat room a few steps into the big room on the left. Bathrooms are down the hall through the big room and to the right. There are gendered bathrooms as well as a one-person bathroom which is ADA accessible.

Sit anywhere, although most people tend to sit in the back!

At 8am, we use just the red book, which is found in your pew/bench, and the piece of paper that is folded in half– those are the scriptures for the day. At 10am, we also use the blue hymnal for music.

The priest will guide you through the service, but definitely peek at your neighbors– it’s some juggling, but we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint by using books instead of a ton of printing. Sometimes people sit down, sometimes people stand up, and sometimes people kneel– pull the tiny bench attached to the pew in front of you to get a comfy kneeler. Follow your neighbors!

At communion time, an usher will invite each row to go up the middle aisle for communion. All are welcome! You’ll come up to the front of the church, kneel on a cushion or stand up close to the railing, and put your hands out. The priest will put a tiny wafer in your hands. (If you need gluten free, just whisper “Gluten free” and we’ll get you one!) Then, someone will come by and offer you a big silver cup. You can either dip your wafer into the wine and then eat it, or eat your wafer and then take a little sip of the wine. If you don’t want wine, you can cross your arms over your chest, shake your head, or say “no thank you.” We believe you participate fully no matter if you receive just the bread, just the wine, or both (it’s called the “doctrine of concomitance!”)

Now we’re back to the red books for a final prayer and a blessing, and another hymn.

After the 10am service, we drink coffee and eat snacks and hang out together. The kids usually play for a bit. All are welcome to join, participate, converse, and make themselves at home. Or, you can sneak in and out. Just know that you are welcomed, and there is room for you.
