Our youngest members are not just the future of the church...
...but are present and vital members of our congregation today.
Sunday School
School-aged children gather outside the sanctuary a little before 10am to ring the bell from the inside balcony. Then they move to a classroom in our lower levels where they check in, learn a story from the scriptures, and integrate a craft or activity. Church schoolers return to the church at around 10:30 to participate in Holy Communion with the entire congregation.
Youth Sundays
Each first Sunday of the month, children and youth lead the worship service at 10am. They read the lessons, acolyte, usher, and participate in the full worship experience. First Sundays tend to be festive weeks with extra engagement and activities.
Youth/ Confirmation Class
Middle schoolers and High schoolers are invited to monthly conversations after the 10am service to build upon the foundations of faith. While these classes may lead to confirmation, it is more an opportunity for similar-aged teens to talk about the Big Questions of life.
Rites of Initiation
First Communion:
We don’t believe Jesus would turn anyone away from the table, and so neither will we! The Episcopal Church does not have a minimum age for receiving the holy sacrament. It is up to the parents to decide when their children will receive, and we do have resources to make “First Communion” special if the family so chooses.
Baptism: In the Episcopal Church, we believe in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and do not "rebaptize." Baptism most often takes place in infancy as a sign of God’s grace from the very beginning of life, though people of any age are welcome to be baptized. Talk to the clergy to explore or schedule baptism!
Our Littlest Ones
Children belong in church. We invite you to bring your children of any age into church– yes, even if they are noisy, or eat crunchy snacks, or need a diaper change. You belong here, and so do your little ones! If you need a nursing room, some novel toys, or a quiet space to reset, our nursery room is located by the restrooms. We have a changing station and a high chair for your use, as well as numerous couches and rocking chairs. And the best part? Lots of stand-in aunts/uncles/grandparents to help hold a babe, help you with a diaper bag, or give you a pep talk. Come be yourself.
